Watercolor Workshop with Joe Miller

Joe Miller is an award-winning artist and nationally-known art instructor. He’s also the founder and owner of Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff, a popular online and mail order source for art supplies. Joe Miller will teach a four-day watercolor workshop March 30 to April 2, 2017 in Yorktown.

Recently, Cheap Joe became the 12th recipient of the American Watercolor Society Dolphin Award, “for outstanding effort on behalf of the visual arts, artists and organizations, and with special recognition for his support of artists working in watermedia and for his enthusiastic cooperation with the educational efforts of the American Watercolor Society.”

“First and foremost, I’ll strive to make watercolor fun and exciting for everyone, regardless of where they are in their art. I’ll give each person as much one-on-one time as possible. We will have critiques, offering positive ideas that you can do with your art. This will hopefully give you a quantum leap in whatever direction you want to take. My goal is not to teach you to paint like I do, but to paint like you want to.

Of course we will talk about composition, value, color, etc. That’s important, regardless of what medium you paint in. We will work small, no larger than ½ sheet, but mostly even smaller. I will demo as often as time permits. On day one, I will look at each artist’s paintings and comment on them. This is a valuable tool for me to better understand what direction to take in helping you in your art. We will spend a day, or part of it, making cards…a lost art that I feel is very important.

We will also cover: Wet in Wet, Dry brush, Color Mixing/Color Wheel, Brush Techniques, Palette Arrangement, Value, Composition, Thinking, Papers, Lifting/Erasing, Flat Wash, and Graded Wash.

I really look forward to being with you and sharing our talents with each other.”

Here are a few comments from past workshop attendees:

“Just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful workshop. You gave me so many useful tips to improve my paintings.” Sharon J.

“You were so kind and inspirational. I loved every bit of the workshop.” Rose D.
“Great class, but more than that, you share so much with us…your heart, soul, wisdom, humor, and generosity.” Diane M.
